Stockholm is one of the cities in the world with a great public transportation system. Choose from, subways, buses, boats, trams and commuter trains.

Not only has Stockholm some of the more beautiful subway stations in the world and it is fairly easy and fast to use the public transportation system, if you wonder how to get around in Stockholm.

How to get around in Stockholm

The city has many options for the travellers in the city. Most places we would recommend you to take a walk as Stockholm has a lot to offer its guests. But if you want to travel a bit faster or further the public transportations are excellent.

A one way ticket is 42 SEK and is valid for 75 minutes giving you plenty of time to get to your destination. In Stockholm you only need to tap a card to the readers entering the bus, subway or boat. You can use your phone and smart phone wallets to tap your card. 

No queueing for tickets

This is very smart as you never have to go to a booth or kiosk to get a ticket (only for some passes) and that speeds up the entering in to your transportation.

Plan your trip using SL-app

The SL-app (SL is the company responsible for the transportations) or being online is a great way to plan your trip. The app will tell you where to go to get your ride, what time and where to go off. If you need to walk the app will tell you that too.

You can also put in a query that you need to be at your destination at an certain time and the app (or online) will let you know when you have to travel to make your schedule.

Buses, boats and ferries

It is fun using the public transportation in Stockholm as you can travel with so many kinds of transportations. Get a boat to the archipelago, a commuter train to the airport or the local bus to your new fave restaurant. 

Hours of operations

Buses run all night long and subway to aprox 3am every day. If you need to take a tram or commuter train please check the time tables as some stops running close to midnight.
